December 20, 2021, Baltimore, MD – Gaskiya Diagnostics, a technology company that develops and markets rapid, low-cost and easy-to-use diagnostic tests for aquaculture, announced today it has been awarded an Encouraging Development, Growth and Expansion (EDGE) Grant up to $100,000 from Delaware’s Division of Small Business.

Delaware Gov. John Carney and Division of Small Business Director Jordan Schulties presented the STEM-category grant award to Gaskiya Diagnostics’ CEO Mary Larkin, PhD. Delaware’s EDGE Grants are awarded, via a competitive application process, to companies that are less than five years old and employ up to 10 employees.

The Division of Small Business awarded EDGE Grants to 15 Delaware companies, five of which are STEM-focused companies.

As a matching grant program, the Division of Small Business matches a winning STEM company’s investment on a 3-to-1 basis up to $100,000.

Gaskiya Diagnostics, under this program, can spend up to $100,000 EDGE grant funds on expenses that help improve the company’s long-term growth path, such as for marketing campaigns to help acquire new customers or purchasing equipment to increase production capacity.

"This grant award will accelerate our mission to help aquafarmers in the US and across the globe rapidly detect disease in their crops,” said Larkin, CEO with Gaskiya Diagnostics. "With this award from the Delaware Division of Small Business, we can fuel development of our core product and get our easy-to-use diagnostic in the hands of aquafarmers."

Gaskiya Diagnostics serves the $250 billion/year aquaculture industry by enabling farmers to quickly diagnose disease in their stock and take immediate action to mitigate its impact. No specialized training or equipment are needed to perform the tests, making them broadly accessible to farmers of all skill sets. Rapid diagnosis leads to faster treatment, fewer losses and more quality food to meet global demand.
